I see brand new FPU kits on ebay for right around - and often less than - $100. We decided to buy it from www.daveramsey.com because the website was pretty darn misleading. This is what it says-
Get a lifetime membership with the purchase of this Membership Kit. Only one kit is required per family. Included with your membership are:
* Course Materials
The Membership Kit provides everything you need to attend a class in your area.
* Access to the Member Resource Center
Enhance your FPU experience with online features including budgeting software, an active discussion community, bonus articles, videos and more.
* Lifetime Benefits for Your Family
With your lifetime membership, you and your immediate family can attend an FPU class anywhere, any time, at no extra charge.
So I buy it thinking I would get lifetime access to the forum, budgeting software, etc.
When the package arrived today there was something in it that says-
Start using this FREE resource today!
*Register your lifetime membership.
*Talk to FPU members online.
*Complete your homework online.
*Watch exclusive Dave Ramsey videos.
*Access helpful tools for each lesson.
*Enter drawings to win special prizes.
So it looks to me like my free lifetime membership includes the ability to talk to other FPU members, use the budgeting software, etc. right?
Wrong.
I had to call them again (for some reason it wouldn't let me register) and happened to ask. The forum, budgeting software, etc. are only free for 15 weeks. Then after I bought it, I log on and see this -
Access to FPU and to the MRC content is lifetime, however, a few of the tools are being provided by MyTotalMoneyMakeover.com, Dave's subscription-based Web site, and will only last for 15 weeks. These resources, the My Money tools, Community Forums, and Journal are meant to give you additional help for your first Financial Peace experience.
So, is it just me? Did I miss read? Because I swear that to me it reads that those things are free for 'lifetime.' These things aren't a huge deal, but had I realized that they were only for 15 weeks, I would have bought from ebay for a lot less.
I am already so mad (at myself) because years ago I had one of the free grandfathered memberships and we decided to purchase a membership (some books and other things.) Instead of using a new name - so I could keep the free grandfathered membership - I used the free name. A year later when I didn't renew the membership, of course there was no way to revert to the free grandfathered membership.
So now I messed up my free membership and have now over paid for FPU because of a misleading website. Is it any wonder I am in the situation I am in? Imagine how bad I mess everything else up if I can't even purchase something correctly.

Can you return it? Does DR have a good return policy? He darn well should have!!
We can't afford the FPU, and so we are just following the Baby Steps. You can find there here: http://www.daveramsey.com/etc/cms/baby_steps_2867.htmlc
I know how you feel about buyers remorse, I've been there, done that, trust me!!
I like the idea of a financial planner, but I don't think we'll ever make enough money to need that! We'll do as Dave says and follow the baby steps, and then max our 401K to the matching point, and then do Roth IRAs, and ESA's for our kids. By then, I think we'll be tapped out on how much money we can put into savings!
I think your doing the right thing by following Dave's advice! Keep your chin up (or to the grind stone) which ever seems to help the most on days like these! Hang in there!

I would completely think it was included as you did. See if you can return it.
And here is another thing that may or may not make you mad. Dave Ramsey IS a seller on eBay. Not sure if those are the ones that you are referring to or not but I once read an eBay article about regular businesses that sell on eBay and he was one of them and stated that he knew he was selling his products for less than he does on his own site. It was about reaching the most people (and of course, selling the most product!)
I'm not knocking Dave because I really do love him and his program. Just something to consider the next time you make a DR purchase.
And see if you can return it. Was there a huge cost difference?
Here is the link to the eBay store in case you're interested.

Thanks guys. I am going to call them (they open in 15 minutes. Darn Central time!) and see what I have to do to return it.
I still feel mislead, though. :(
